Pigtails, Patchcords and midcouplers

Pigtails, midcouplers and patchcords is the main components connecting the fibre optic cable to the transmission equipment, thus it is imperative that all factors be including in the design of the fibre optic network, factors like amount of fibre cores, type of fibre optic cable being used, the environment that the fibre would be in, form factor and cost.

ST Connectors

ST connectors are easy to use due to their spring-loaded, keyed, bayonet mount type design. Mainly used for Multimode networks.

SC Connectors

SC connectors are known for their excellent performance and ease of use due to its ”snap-in” design. Featuring a 2.5mm ferrule similar to the ST connector, it is simple, rugged, easy to use and low cost.

LC (Lucent Connector)

Extremely popular in single mode networks, LC connectors are known for their small size and good performance. Being half the size of an SC connector all while being a duplex connector housing 2 fibre cores, each with a 1.25mm ferule.

More examples of fibre optic connectors include:

  • Plastic Fibre Optic Cable Connectors
  • Opt-Jack
  • LX-5
  • Volition Connector
  • MU Connector
  • E2000 Connector
  • MPO/MTP Connectors
